Success Stories

These snippets are all stories of homeless US War Veterans who received Victory House Homeless Services and Resources:

Kevin F.: Kevin, a current resident and 48 year old veteran with a past history of drug and alcohol addiction was admitted to Victory House and Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program in February 2005. Kevin has secured employment and is currently working toward reinstatement of his driver’s license, which will open new doors of opportunity. Kevin has begun a systematic savings program, has renewed relationships with his family, and is doing volunteer outreach with children in a deprived neighborhood in Allentown. Kevin is currently one of our Single Room Occupancy (SRO) program residents. Kevin has remained drug and alcohol free while a resident of Victory House.

Jeffrey K.: Jeff, a former resident and 54 year old veteran with a history of drug and alcohol addiction and with mental health issues was admitted to Victory House and the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program on March 2005. Jeff was a resident of Victory House for 8 months prior to the Per Diem Program and was working on disability. In the past year Jeff was granted VA Disability, granted housing in Bethlehem low income housing program, has a savings program in place, and has remained drug and alcohol free while living in Victory House and plans to remain drug and alcohol free. Jeff transitioned from Victory House to his own apartment.

Paul M.: Paul, a former resident and 59 year old veteran without presenting issues of mental health or drug or alcohol addiction was admitted to Victory House and the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program on March 2005. Paul had been a prior resident of Victory House for 9 months when a check up with the VA discovered cancer. Paul underwent radiation treatment in Philadelphia VA Hospital during which time we had to discharge Paul from our program at Victory House. Upon his release from Philadelphia VA hospital Paul was readmitted as a resident of VA in the Grant and Per Diem Program. Paul secured full time employment – with benefits; – established a payment plan to pay off his loans (debts); renewed relationships with his children on Long Island, NY. Paul was able to move from Victory House to a one family home where he is currently living with friends, sharing expenses. When Paul transitioned from Victory House he was a Single Room Occupancy (SRO) program resident and had remained drug and alcohol free while a resident of Victory House.

John R.: John, a current resident and 60 year old veteran came to Victory House as a recommendation from the Lehigh Valley Veterans Clinic without presenting problems of mental health or addictions. John was able to enroll in the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program on March 2005. In the year John has been here he has been granted VA disability; has begun a systematic savings plan; has put together his Plan of Action having him transition from Victory House to independent living in AZ. John plans to move west in the fall of 2006. He has a budget in place that will make his goals a reality. John is a current our Single Room Occupancy (SRO) program resident and has remained drug and alcohol free while a resident of Victory House.

Raymond R.: Raymond, a former resident and 50 year old veteran with a history of mental health and addictions problems was a resident of Victory House prior to the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program. Raymond was able to be enrolled in the Veterans Affairs Grant and Per Diem Program on March 2005. During his residency at Victory House Raymond enrolled in classes at Northampton County Community College where he successfully completed his classes and continues with his education today. Raymond was a resident when he transitioned to housing with his family. Raymond successfully addressed his addiction problems and was drug and alcohol free while a resident of Victory House. He continues to be drug and alcohol free today. Raymond has spoken to groups telling how he found success because of the Victory House program and the stability we gave him to pursue his dreams and goals.
